The 1960’s were a turbulent time in American History. Berkeley In The Sixties is an outstanding, Oscar nominated, 1990 documentary by Mark Kirchelle. It tells the comprehensive and insightful story of a small group of students at the University of California in Berkeley, who challenged the establishment and changed the face of America. What started as an interest in politics became the launching point for the Free Speech and Anti War movements in America.
Liberation Entertainment will release the newly remastered ‘Berkeley In The Sixties’ on 26th February 2007, available for the first time on DVD.
This amazing film brings 1960’s California back to life! The birth of the free speech movement, civil rights marches, anti Vietnam protests and the rise of the Black Panthers are all captured in this DVD. The outstanding account of 1960’s America, uses archive footage interwoven with present day interviews with the people involved in bringing about this change over half a century ago.
Current interest in political film making is high and Berkeley In The Sixties was the forerunner of today’s radical documentary making and a snap shot of a time of great change when a nation of youth found it’s voice and defied the establishment.
As well as the archival visual images the film also contains classic music from the era including The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, The Band, Joan Baez and Jefferson Airplane, making this an exceptional documentary of the 1960s.
