THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP is an imaginative romantic fantasy written and directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind). Displaying all of the director’s trademark charm and originality, the film is a fresh take on a modern love story and will be released on DVD 25th June from Warner Home Video.
Gael García Bernal (Babel, The Motorcycle Diaries) starsas an insecure young artist desperately trying to take control of his dream life in order to win the heart of the girl next door played by Charlotte Gainsbourg (21 Grams). The film combines wacky visuals with hilarious and moving performances and features a particularly funny turn from Alain Chabat as a vulgar co-worker who imparts some dubious advice on the opposite sex.
Synopsis
Life seems to be looking up for shy and eccentric Stephane Miroux (Gael García Bernal) when he returns to his childhood home in Paris with the promise of a great job. |
However, he soon discovers that the job is a crushing disappointment and his frustration is compounded by the desire he feels for Stephanie (Charlotte Gainsbourg), the girl who lives in the apartment across the hall.

White collar drudge by day and at night Stephane can be found in the surreal and magical world of his dreams where he is the charismatic host of ‘Stephane TV’ expounding on ‘The Science of Sleep’ in front of cardboard cameras. As his wildly creative and sometimes disturbing dream life constantly intrudes on his waking world, the confidence he exudes in his dreams seeps into his real life until his insecurities force their way back. Unable to find the secret to Stephanie’s heart while awake, Stephane searches for the answer in his dreams.
