Biography

Acclaimed singer/songwriter Marc Broussard is an artist with a unique gift of channeling the spirits of classic R&B, rock, and soul into contemporary terms.  The son of Louisiana Hall of Fame guitarist Ted Broussard of "The Boogie Kings," he nurtured his musical gifts in the vibrant Lafayette, Louisiana, music scene. After releasing a highly successful independent EP at age 20, Broussard made his major-label debut with Carencro. The album featured the breakout hit "Home" and propelled him into the international spotlight. That album and the others that followed revealed Broussard as a Southern soul singer with rarefied talent and an innate stylistic and emotional authenticity that has made him one of the most indelible artists of his generation. The Louisiana-born and raised artist has created a wide range of music in his career. Carencro laid the groundwork with unequaled style, illustrating his knack for modern soul music and setting the stage for his long and distinguished career. NPR cited, "His music radiates soulful Louisiana blues, but his songs blend those influences with raucous rock 'n' roll to create unique and infectious music." The Washington Timesnoted, "Few modern voices are as powerful as Marc Broussard's soulful, Bayou-bred baritone."

Over the last decade, Broussard released multiple albums with major labels before returning to his independent roots with a series of acclaimed original recordings and charitable cover albums through his S.O.S. Foundation (Save Our Soul).  His philanthropic releases include Save Our Soul, Save Our Soul 11: Soul on a Mission, A Lullaby Collection, SOS 111 with accompanying children's book, I Love You for You, and S.O.S.4: Blues for Your Soul, his collaboration with blues icon Joe Bonamassa, which debuted at Number One on the Billboard Blues Albums Chart.

Broussard's commitment to philanthropy spans over two decades, beginning with his self-released album Bootleg to Benefit the Victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  He also initiated the Momentary Setback Fund to provide financial assistance to those displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In 2015, furthering his mission to connect music with meaningful causes, he established the S.O.S. Foundation.  This organization raises funds for various important initiatives, including the United Way, Habitat for Humanity, the City of Refuge in Atlanta, Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA, and the Miami-based organization Guitars Over Guns.

Broussard released Time Is a Thief in 2024, his first collection of original music in seven years and was met with critical acclaim.  Produced by Grammy-winning Eric Krasno and Grammy-nominated producer Jeremy Most, the album features ten original tracks, including the uplifting single “Give You The World." Blues Rock Review called the album "a new masterwork that transcends his previous body of work like the crown jewel does the ascent stones." The Advocate cited the "album represents Broussard's soul- and rhythm-and-blues-informed style better than anything that preceded it."

Broussard’s new album, S.O.S. V: Songs of the ’50s is an eleven-song set featuring intoxicating renditions of soul, blues, rock, and pop classics from the Fifties, two early Sixties gems, and a Broussard original.  This vibrant collection offers a showcase for Broussard’s dynamic vocal prowess and craftsmanship for an impressive range of enduring American music.

S.O.S. V: Songs of the ‘50s is the fifth installment of his philanthropic Save Our Soul album series, benefiting Love of People, a nonprofit organization based in Broussard’s hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana.  "Our S.O.S. projects are driven by a heartfelt mission, He says, "to maximize the funds we raise for our wonderful partner organizations. As artists, we have the unique ability to inspire change and raise awareness in our communities and beyond.”

TV performances include The Kelly Clarkson Show, The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, CBS Saturday Morning, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival/AXS TV, and many more. In 2019, his performance on the PBS TV Series The Kate received an Emmy nomination. Broussard's songs have been featured in numerous films and TV shows, including American Idol, The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, and So You Think You Can Dance. Additionally, he has been a featured performer on numerous recordings, including the GRAMMY-nominated I Wanna Sing Right: Rediscovering Lomax in the Evangeline Country.
